Grade 6-8th Social Studies Our goal is to prepare students for their dual role in society as informed Roman Catholics and United States citizens.
Grade 7-American History I (Exploration--Up to beginning of the Civil War) 7th Grade Students must take and pass both Federal and Illinois Constitution Tests.
Resources: textbook: America: History of Our Nation, Discovery Education videos, America: The Story of US (History Channel video) 7th Grade textbook which begins with the first inhabitants of North America and continues through American history to the Civil War. We will examine how society, economics, and politics transferred from Europe to the Americas and developed and thrived in the United States.
Grade 8-American History II (Civil War-Present Day) Resources: textbook: America: History of Our Nation, Discovery Education videos, America: The Story of Us (History channel video) 8th grade Social Studies picks up at the American Civil War and extends through the Vietnam era. We will examine how society, economics, and politics have changed throughout the history of our Nation.
Grade 7-8th-English- The students will be writing to convey meaning, applying classroom instruction in grammar, mechanics, and process. The students will also practice their listening and speaking skills. Students will listen for understanding, follow directions and respond appropriately to the speaker. Students will use acquired language and vocabulary to express opinions orally and written.
Resources: Textbook-Writer’s Choice Grammar and Composition, School House Rock, YouTube videos, and Moby Max. The 8th grade will examine the conventions of English grammar throughout the school year. Students will use the knowledge gained to compose essays. 8th grade will compose informational/narrative, expository, and persuasive essay during the school year.
Grade 7-8 thLiterature- A dedicated Literature text book and Historical Fiction Novels are used to teach and explore the essential elements of Literature to prepare students for High School.
Grade 6-World History We will be examining the geography, history, and cultures of the world from the beginnings of history up to the age of European exploration of the Americas.
Resources: textbook-History of Our World, Discovery Education videos, Discovery Education. 6th grade World History begins with the study of Prehistory and continues through ancient history to the Middle Ages. We examine how society, economics, and politics of the past cultures have shaped and influenced our present day society and cultures.
